The President General of Isiagu community in Awka South Local Government area, Mr. Udochukwu Nnebedum has called on the youths of the area to remain peaceful and united as the proposed election for the leadership of the Isiagu Youth Association will hold in no distant time.

 

The President General made the call while addressing youths of the community who were protesting over the postponement of the leadership election of Isiagu Youth Association which was earlier scheduled for Tuesday 11th April, 2023.

 

Mr. Nnebedum apologized to the youths over the postponement and explained that after rigorous consultations, it has become obvious that there was need to reschedule the election for a new date.

 

He assured the general public that Isiagu community remains safe and habitable for business and residence.

A chairmanship candidate in the election Mr. Chioma Ekemezie and a youth, Mr. Ifeanyi Owa expressed disappointment over the conduct of some persons who only wants to use the youths for their selfish goals and hate to see the youths being organize towards a collective positive goal.

 

They appealed to the town union, as the body responsible for the conduct of the said election, to assume responsibility immediately and see that the election is conducted in due time.

 

Contributing, another candidate in the election, Mr. Sunday Igwenagu commended the commitment of the President General in handling the issue concerning the youths and pledged the unalloyed support of the youths to the development of the town.

 

Explaining the reason why the election was called off, the Traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Augustine Nwankwo revealed that there were complaints of extortion, destruction of properties, and threats among the contestants before the election which led to the decision to call off the election and cool off the tension the exercise had generated .
