The office of the Auditor General for Local governments has commenced a three-day workshop for auditors in Anambra State to acquaint them with auditing principles in line with the international best practices .

 

In her remarks, the state Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe represented by the Director, Public Service Office, Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Adebayo Ojeyinka charged the auditors to see the programme as a very good opportunity to develop their skills by taking it seriously.

She urged them to always update themselves with the happenings in the field of auditing by going for constant training for optimal performance.

 

On his part, the Auditor General of Anambra State, Mr. Daniel Okeke noted that the intent of the programme is to train auditors who audit local governments accounts on how to produce good audit report to arrest fraudulent means through which government revenue is diverted to private pockets.

Addressing the participants during the workshop holding in Awka, the Acting Auditor General for Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Nwokoye explained that the essence of the programme is to equip auditors who were employed in 2013 with the necessary skills that will enable them discharge their duties in a professional way for the benefit of Anambra State.

 

Mr Nwokoye maintained that the capacity building programme will empower the auditors to fill the gap created by many of their staff who had retired from service.

In his presentation , a resource person, Mr. Cyril Umeh taught the auditors the basic audit principles for auditing accounting books.

 

The auditors later observed a minute silence for late Dr. Chinweoke Mbadinuju, former Governor of Anambra State.
