The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, has commenced desilting of drainage channels along Ifite road, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka School gate, Ifite.

The exercise which has entered its second day was led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Mr. Ossy Onuko.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Onuko said that the drainage desilting at the Ifite-school road became imperative because it has been blocked for years, affecting some portions of the road badly.

He revealed that the exercise is one of the many steps ACTDA would be taking to rescue Ifite from turning into a mega slum, thereby negating the aesthetic look the agency is building in the capital territory.

The ACTDA boss warned landlords and developers to stop channeling their water and septic tanks into the drainages, as the agency will soon commence supervision of buildings in the city and defaulters would be severely dealt with.

Mr. Onuko assured that ACTDA will continue to work with the policies and programmes of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s led administration to ensure a clean, green and sustainable Anambra.

He equally advised developers within the capital territory to always visit the head office of the agency in Awka to get adequate approvals before they commence any work to avoid running fowl of the law.
