A fully equipped world class Accounting Research Center, has been completed and commissioned for use at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Igbariam Campus by the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN.
The research center, which foundation stone was laid in July 2022, has one hundred and fifty sitting capacity hall, two hundred and forty sitting capacity seminar rooms, seven different offices and conveniences among others.
Commissioning the center, sited beside the administrative complex of the university, the President and Chairman of Council of ANAN, Professor Benjamin Osisioma, announced that following the decentralization of ANAN examination centers, the research center will henceforth become one of their examination centers.
Professor Osisioma, who also announced a one-million-naira yearly maintenance token for the center, enjoined students to put passion in whatever they do and aim to be the best.
While applauding the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Greg Nwakoby for accreditating them in the university, Professor Osisioma, who described ANAN as a brand, explained that they pushed the project with vigour and vitality, urging the institution to take full advantage of the research center.
In his speech , Professor Nwakoby, described the research center as a special demonstration and practical manifestation of ANAN’s love and commitment to the institution.
He stated that ANAN is the first professional association in Nigeria to build a permanent center in the university outside private professionals and challenged other professional bodies, whose programmes they offer in the institution to emulate ANAN.
Professor Nwakoby, while assuring to uphold the content of the Memorandum of Understanding they signed, said that what ANAN has done is a huge contribution to the growth and development of generations yet unborn.
For the incoming president of ANAN, who will take over from Professor Osisioma in a few days’ time, Dr. James Neminebor, his administration will always be committed to the maintenance of the center to actualize it full benefits.
Responding the Head of Department of Accountancy, COOU, Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ofor, affirmed that the center has added more value to the university in general and the accountancy department in particular.
The event attracted members of council of ANAN, Principal officers of COOU, Accounting stakeholders, including the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Pius Okoye, students, management and staff of the university.
Cutting of tape, unveiling of plaque, handover of MoU to the Vice Chancellor by ANAN President, Professor Osisioma and tour of the research center, climaxed the commissioning.
