The lawmaker-elect for Oyi Constituency, Sir Innocent Ojike, has described the ongoing effort by the present administration, led by Professor Chukwuma Soludo, towards achieving a clean, green and sustainable environment as a step in the right direction.

 

Sir Innocent, who stated this during an interview in Awka, while reacting to the 2023 World Earth Day celebration, said that the priority attention given to environmental sanitation will go a long way in making the state one of the best in Nigeria in environment sanitation exercises .

 

He said that the preservation of the environment should not be left for government alone and expressed regret on attitude of some people, who dumped refuse indiscriminately.

 

The lawmaker-elect condemned the practice of erecting buildings on water channels, and while calling for a change of attitude, advocated federal government’s intervention.

 

He however announced his readiness to spearhead the making of relevant laws that will preserve the environment by discouraging deforestation.
