The Late Mrs Catherine Ifeyinwa Umezinwa (Nee Ebonine) was born on the 18th of February, 1964 to the family of Late Nze John and Benedete Ebonine of Umu Umekweghi, Umuchiaku, Awalasi Uga in Aguata local government area of Anambra State. She was the first child of her parents.
Following her primary and secondary education at Community Primary School, Uga and Uga Girls’ Secondary School, she got married at an early age to Late Nze Simeon Umezinwa of Okorobi family in Umuikpa Oka, Uga in 1983. The marriage was blessed with six children -two girls and four boys among whom is Engr. Chidi Umezinwa, the General Manager of Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA).
“Evidence” as she was popularly known was renowned for her selflessness and industry which enabled her dispose her duties with such admiration as a leader in different religious and social organizations. Notable among her leadership positions include Financial Secretary, Vice President and President of Catholic Women Organization (CWO), St Mary’s community, Immaculate Heart Parish, Fegge, Onitsha at different times.
She was also at one time the Chief Provost, Catholic Women Organization, Fegge Zone; Patroness, Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), Immaculate Heart Parish, Fegge, Onitsha; Chairlady, Alutaradi Umuikpa Improvement Union; Vice Chairlady, Umuada, Umucheaku Awarasi, Uga; Secretary, Uga Improvement Union, Onitsha Branch, (Women Wing), and Chairlady, Oka Improvement Union, Onitsha Branch (Women Wing).
Other positions she held also include Vice Chairlady, CWO, Holy Trinity Zone, St Vincent De Paul, Uga, Onitsha Branch; Chairlady, Number 25 Kaduna Street, Fegge Onitsha and Woman Leader, Labour Party, Onitsha South Local Government Area.
She is credited with several innovative contributions towards the advancement of these organizations.
Until her death, she was a compassionate woman who was fully committed to the welfare of her children and people around her. Beyond her leadership involvements, Evidence touched many lives through several acts of charity. She is loved by many and will forever be remembered for her impacts in the society.
As she is being committed to mother earth tomorrow, Wednesday, 26th April 2023, we pray the good Lord to accept her soul in his bosom.
