The twenty-first synod of the Methodist Diocese of Onitsha held at Immanuel Church, Odoakpu Onitsha has ended with a call on the political leaders to address socio-economic challenges facing the country.

 

In his presidential address, the Bishop, Right Reverend Chiemeka Okpalachukwudi who highlighted the theme of the synod urged Christians to defend their faith even as he observed that christianity is seemingly at crossroads in the country.

Right Reverend Okpalachukwudi noted that religious freedom as enshrined in the country’s constitution is being threatened and asked the Federal government to map out strategies on how to address it.

 

On the state of the nation, the Prelate regretted the sufferings of the poor masses despite abundant human and natural resources in the country .

Delivering a sermon at a special service to mark the end of the event, a guest speaker, Reverend Osmund Orji who harped on the need for revival of the church emphasized that salvation remains the essence of Christianity as true faith must take center stage in Christian gathering.

 

Reverend Orji who is the Director of Evangelism in Okigwe Archdiocese also spoke on the need for evangelism and Kingdom advancement, urging Christians to value and have absolute faith in God.

The wife of the Bishop, Mrs Patience Chiemeka and the host Priest Very Reverend Timothy Ogbonnaya in their separate remarks expressed gratitude to God for the success of the event.

 

Some of the delegates, who spoke to the ABS, including Sir Philip Nsude, Mrs. Amaka Chukwude as well as the Lay President Sir Onyekachi Nwulo, commended the Bishop for his role in shepherding the flock.
