Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare Mrs Ify Obinabo has inaugurated more than thirty elected officers of theAnambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU Women’s wing in Awka.

 

The event which took place at Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center Awka was well attended by the members of the association, National Council for Women Societies, Anglican Mothers Union amongst others.

The event which started with a sensitization seminar on ‘Agro Food Packaging as the Fastest way of eradicating poverty, hunger and unemployment among women had Dr Joseph Okeke as its facilitator while the Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare on Sexual and Gender Based Violence taught the women on ‘The Importance of Child Protection and the Effects of Sexual and Gender Based Violence to both Women and children’.

Addressing the women, Mrs Obinabo charged members of the new executive to at all times carry the women along and avoid any form of faction amongst the association.

 

She went further to urge members of the association to at the same time give their elected officials the necessary support needed for the assignment.

Mrs Obinabo also used the opportunity to urge the women to step down the knowledge garnered at the event in their different communities for the improvement of the society.

 

In their different speeches, the Chief Magistrate Grade one, Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka, Genevieve Osakwe and the National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo, charged the women to seek ways of promoting unity and love.

Also, in her speech the immediate past President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, women’s wing Lady Franca Nwigbo appreciated the women and social welfare Commissioner for making their tenure a smooth one and promised to give the incoming executive maximum support in order to take women Affairs higher in the State.
