Methodist Church of Nigeria has created a new diocese in Awka, with the enthronement of Right Reverend Moses Nwakanma, as the pioneer bishop.
The inauguration, held at Cathedral of Holy Trinity Amaenyi, Awka, also featured the presentation of Sir. Ifeanyi Mba as the pioneer Lay President.
The Prelate, Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali-Aba inaugurated the new diocese while the Archbishop, Enugu Archdiocese, Most Reverend Barrister Christopher Edeh, enthroned Bishop Nwakamma and made the presentation.
The tripartite event, which attracted, college of Archbishops, Bishops, Priests, knights, laities and legal team of the Methodist Church, different denominations, the academic community, traditional rulers and people from all walks of life will continue to be in the annals of history of the new diocese.
Speaking after the service, His Eminence, Dr Ali-Aba said as leaders in the church, they are called to work for the salvation of souls as ecumenism is their core mandate.
He charged the citizens to take the nation to a higher pedestal by being in unity, promoting peace and having the progress of Nigeria at heart.
The celebrant, Bishop Nwakamma, during a sermon, appreciated God and the church for finding him worthy to be enthroned as the pioneer Bishop of Awka Diocese assuring to use his new position to serve God and humanity.
While calling for promotion of ecumenism among Christian denominations, Bishop Nwakamma condemned the act of tempting ministers of God by some Christians and assured to win more souls for God.
The Lay President, Sir Ifeanyi, who unveiled his already initiated plans to uplift the diocese, guaranteed to use his new position to promote evangelism and serve humanity.
Appreciating God, the president of the women ministry in the diocese, Mrs. Lydia Nwakamma, assured to carry the women along in the scheme of things to realize the vision of the church.
The event featured presentation of certificate to Bishop Nwakamma and Sir. Ifeanyi.
