The National Population Commission has been urged to use the window provided by the postponement of the 2023 National Population and Housing Census to put in place necessary logistics and manpower to meet expectations of Nigerians.
Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene called on community leaders and other stakeholders to increase enlightenment of the people on need to be part of the exercise.
Chief Okeke-Ogene said time has come to correct the mistake made during the last census exercise which has continued to adversely affect states of the South East in national affairs.
He explained that census is fundamental in generating the needed data for planning and implementation of policies and programmes at all levels of government and enjoined families and communities to give the enumerators all necessary cooperation and support to achieve the set goals.
Chief Okeke-Ogene urged the National Population Commission to remain objective and adopt international best practices to meet expectations of Nigerians.
He expressed satisfaction that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has restored security across the state and provided conducive environment for socio-economic activities to thrive.
Also speaking, the State Chairman of Miners Association of Nigeria, Chief Henry Igboeli said the Governor has brought back peace and stability in the state that would ensure a hitch-free census exercise.
Chief Igboeli commended the Governor for initiating interventions towards sustainable development and noted that his youth empowerment programmes will help solve problems of unemployment as well as crime and social vices.
According to him, the One Youth Two Skills empowerment scheme and Information and Communication Technology – ICT training programme for over twenty thousand youths will equip them to become self-reliant and employers of labour as well as accelerate industrial development and attract more investors.
