The Managing Director and chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority ACTDA Mr Ossy Onuko says Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to transforming Awka into a livable and prosperous capital city.
Speaking at the Residence of Chief Jonathan Nzekwe of Umuonaga village Awka who organized a thank you ceremony for the Anambra State government under Professor Chukwuma Soludo for all its efforts to develop Awka, Mr Onuko who spoke through the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Awka capital Territory Development Authority Mr Nwachukwu Obiora maintained that Awka has been a major beneficiary of the development initiatives of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and called on the people of the area to continue with their support to his administration.
He listed series of roads being constructed in Awka by the government and numerous appointments given to Awka indigenes which he said is a clear testament that Governor Soludo is committed to transforming Awka.
Mr Onuko charged the people of Awka to continue to be law abiding in order to benefit more from the dividends of democracy by the present government.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of Awka Community Obi Gibson Nwosu charged the people of Awka to always embrace peace and love for sustainable development in the area.
Obi Nwosu who spoke through the traditional Prime Minister of Awka Community Chief Benjamin Okoye, maintained that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of rancor and acrimony.
He charged the people of Awka to take full ownership of the community by supporting government programmes and policies.
Obi Nwosu described Awka as a cosmopolitan city and called on the people especially the youths to avoid acts capable of portraying the community in bad light.
In a remark a representative of Ozo Awka society, Chief Okechukwu Obuora called on the people to always respect the constituted authorities.
A woman leader in Awka Community Mrs Ijeamaka Anizoba, and a representative of Umuonaga village Chief Peter Chukwukelue said that with peaceful coexistence amongst the people of Awka Community, even development will continue to thrive in the area.
The host Chief Jonathan Nzekwe said that the aim of organizing the ceremony is part of his desire to restore the core values of the people of Awka and charged the people to unite in order to attract more government presence.
The event attracted representatives of all the thirty-three Villages in Awka community, Women groups, members of the Awka Development Union ADUN Nigeria, Village heads, Awka king makers among others.
