Rotary International, District 9142 has commenced its 2023 Synergizer Conference in Awka aimed at sensitizing the public on its activities.
Representatives of the organization who made this known during a familiarization visit to the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service Sir Chido Obidiegwu in Awka enumerated the activities to include polio vaccination, providing service to the masses, promoting integrity and advancing the world’s understanding, goodwill, and restoring peace in the society. Correspondent Blessing Dennis reports that the 2023 Conference tagged “Diversity, Equity And Inclusion : Strategies For National Development” will look at assessing the high ethical standards in businesses and professions as well as dignifying each rotarian activity as an opportunity to serve the society.
In his speech, the past Rotary International President, Mr Holger Knaack, accompanied by his wife, Susanne, explained that Rotary strives to build a world where people unite, celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, colour, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Mr Holger, who is representing the President of Rotary International on the occasion, expressed satisfaction with the warm reception and hospitality of people Nigeria, adding that from airport reception to Awka and other parts of Anambra so far visited, had been memorable.
Speaking during the visit, the District Governor, Mrs Grace Okaro said that the visit was geared towards strengthening the existing partnership between Rotary International District and ABS while soliciting more partnership on their programmes and ongoing conference in Anambra to give them the required publicity.
Also Speaking, another member of the delegation, Mr Ndukwe Okpani said that Rotary is a global network of over one point four million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting changes across the globe, in communities and among themselves.
Responding, the Managing Director of ABS, Sir Chido lauded the blueprint of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in providing an enabling environment for visitors to Anambra State and commended the group for its key humanitarian priority to rid the world of polio.
He further extolled the performance of the District Governor, adding that her accepting the challenge to translate the Four Way Test of Rotary into Igbo language for deeper reflection by society was outstanding.
The ABS MD further charged rotary to identify with the Soludo administration’s efforts towards turning Anambra into a liveable prosperous smart mega city.
