Anambra Governor’s Wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has said that the recent donation of one thousand, two hundred and twelve delivery kits, also known as Mama kits, to the state by the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, will be crucial in tackling neonatal and maternal deaths especially in rural areas of Anambra State.

Mrs. Soludo, who stated this in Awka while getting briefing on the donation, commended UNICEF, World Health Organization, WHO, and other development partners that are working with the state government, for supporting the development visions the State Government.

She explained that the delivery kits, which contain essential needs for birth, will also aid hygiene and personal health habits of women, especially those getting prenatal services in rural hospitals.

Mrs. Soludo also noted that distribution of the kits will prioritize women living in hard-to-access communities especially areas affected by last year’s flooding, and would also be given as incentive to women, who are going for antenatal in public health facilities.

The governor’s wife further stated that having made similar donation for pregnant women taking shelter in designated Holding Centers in the state during last year’s flooding, she understands the economic and social difficulties faced by most rural women in the course of child birth.

She urged those involved in the distribution of the delivery kits to ensure that the target areas are covered, with special consideration to women within specified economic brackets.

Recall that in November, 2022, the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, also made a donation of five thousand delivery kits to Anambra State, to be given to pregnant women displaced by flood.
