Wife of the Governor of Anambra State Dr Nonye Soludo says the government alone cannot stop domestic violence.
The governor’s wife, who stated this in Awka, explained that for the case to be eliminated, everyone including those going through them, must show better action and commitment to end the menace .
Dr Soludo, noted that the first step to tackling cases of abuse and domestic violence is by exposing those involved , urging those who notice signs of such incidents in homes, schools, offices or any place, to reach out to the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.
The governor’s wife, who emphasized that Anambra State is not a playground for abusers, pledged her commitment to ensure justice for any reported case of abuse and domestic violence, especially one that affects women, children and girls.
Dr Soludo also expressed displeasure over the growing reports of abuse of servants by their supposed guardians, sexual abuse of children, rape, as well as molestation and torture of women, stressing that the society must respond to the challenge by confronting the ugly development .
She commended the recent introduction of a special court in Anambra State, that looks exclusively into cases of sexual and domestic abuse and related crimes, stating that she has high hopes that while expediting the processes of prosecution, the court will also help by delivering verdicts that send a deterrent signal to would-be offenders and help sanitize the state social environment.
Dr Soludo, re-assured that the present administration is building a State that gives equal opportunity to every Anambra resident to thrive.
