The 2023 Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Awka was a crusade of sorts that witnessed evangelism that drummed the importance of preserving the sanctity of families.

The four-day synod came to an end yesterday with a thanksgiving service at Saint Peter’s Church, Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area.

The President of the synod and Bishop of the Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, his wife, Chioma, Archbishops and Bishops from other Dioceses and Provinces, Chancellor of the Diocese, Justice OJ Okeke and members of the legal team converged on the church for the special service to mark the end of the Synod.

The synod, the highest decision making body of the Diocese, with over seven hundred delegates, House of Clergy and Bishops have been considering the theme ‘Running the Christian Race, Implications for the Family in Perilous Times’ since Thursday when the synod commenced.

Most Reverend Ibezim who is also the Archbishop Province of the Niger, while discussing the theme, said effective discipleship is possible through peaceful families, emphasizing that the essence of the synod was to remind all that running the christian race must be reflected in their families through godly living.

Most Reverend Ibezim lamented that many families are in disarray, asking parents to sit up to their responsibility, have godly conversation with their families to discipline them in the way of the Lord.

In a sermon, the synod preacher and Bishop, Diocese of Ibadan, Most Reverend Joseph Akinfenwa said that the theme of the synod has gone a long way to outline what the perilous times will look like which will include disobedience, having the form of godliness but denying the true worship of God, being unholy and doing ungodly things targeted at families because Satan understands the importance of family to harmonious society.

Archbishop Akinfenwa further described family as the basic building block for one’s formation and positive living and when harnessed properly, the society will be a better place.

Archbishop Akinfenwa also advised the Nigerian Judiciary to stand steadfast in the defense of truth and justice as they consider the numerous election petitions that are before them.

For the President, Mothers’ Union, Province of the Niger and Diocese of Awka, Mrs Ibezim, when the family is healed, the society will be a better place and asked women to utilize all they garnered at the synod and to apply it to their day-to-day activities to build up good christian family homes.

Archbishop Ibezim later gave Diocesan Meritorious Awards to some individuals who have contributed to the growth of God’s Ministry in the Diocese.
