The launching of Anambra State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System, ASEMSAS has continued to attract Commendations from major stakeholders in the state.

In his reaction, the State Chairman of Nigeria Red Cross Society Professor Peter Katchy said the Scheme will enhance prompt response to medical emergencies and save many lives.

ASEMSAS is a collaboration between the government and the private sector to accelerate responses to medical emergencies across the state.

Professor Katchy said the programme is timely and in line with international best practices, noting that response to emergencies and disaster management should be a collective responsibility of the government and the people to achieve the best possible results.

He noted that the initiative will provide succor to residents of the State irrespective of social status and location as the service will revolve around the clock and urged privileged individuals, groups and organizations to invest adequate resources in the programme to provide enough logistics to cover the entire state.

Professor Katchy assured that Red Cross as the first responder to emergencies and disaster management will give the government the needed support to achieve the desired goals.

Also speaking, a nurse, Mrs Josephine Alagwu commended Anambra State government for being the first to key into the programme and noted that the scheme will reduce the challenges often faced by expectant mothers, especially in rural and hard to reach areas.

Mrs Alagwu stressed the need for sustained awareness across the state to encourage people to embrace the programme.
