Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo is currently attending the Nigeria Governors Wives’ Summit in Abuja alongside first ladies from other states in Nigeria.

The three-day event, which kicked off on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, will end today and would feature engagements and conversations with critical stakeholders on solutions to some health and social challenges facing women, children and girls in Nigeria.

Already, the governor’s wives have had interactions with stakeholders including Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Office of the Vice President, Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Federal Ministry of Health, Save the Child, UNICEF, among others, on ways of improving funding for nutrition among women and girls in Nigeria.

Other discussions will aim to find lasting solutions to issues of drug abuse among women and children, human trafficking, infant and maternal mortalities, primary health care delivery, women and girl child rights and social advocacies.

 

Representatives of International development and donor partners, including World Bank, United States Agency for International Development, USAID, European Union, United Nations Women, United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA and UNICEF, would also be speaking on better collaborations and strategies for tackling identified problems.

The President’s wife, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, and the chairperson of Nigeria Governors Wives Forum (NGWF) Dr Mariya Aminu Tambuwal are expected to deliver their various addresses.

During the roundtable and panel discussions, Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs. Soludo is expected to present a brief on her efforts and how Anambra State government is tackling issues of trafficking in person, infant and maternal mortalities, disease control, primary health care revitalization, gender-based violence, women and girl child rights, hygiene and healthy living, among others.

 

Wives of newly-elected governors would also be formally inducted into the Forum.
