The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Prof Nkechi Ikediugwu, has charged Principals of secondary schools in Anambra State to desist from illegal collection of levies or face demotion.
The PPSSC chairman gave the charge when she visited Kenneth Dike Memorial Secondary School, Awka, where she met with some SS Two students sitting close to the school’s gate and on interrogation, she discovered that the students were chased out of classroom for nonpayment of school fees which was above the official school fees.
While interacting with the School Principal, she disclosed that there is a proposed PTA Levy of five hundred naira which every student is expected to pay.
The Chairman frowned at such illegal levy and insisted that the only fees approved by the state government should be collected.
Prof Ikediugwu also asked that the five hundred naira already collected from the students be refunded to them with immediate effect.
She reiterated that principalship is a position of trust, and Principals are to be honest, sincere and transparent, noting that the Commission will not tolerate principals who lack such virtues.
