The Anambra State Police Command has rescued two kidnapped officials of United States Consulate who were attacked by gunmen along Atani-Osomalla road in Ogbaru on Tuesday.
A nine-person team comprising officials of US Consular office and their security details who were on their way to an erosion impact assessment visit in Ogbaru Local Government Area last Tuesday when they came under the attack of the gunmen between 12noon and 2pm.
Seven of the nine persons were killed on the spot while the other two were kidnapped with their vehicles set on fire.
During a press briefing held at the state Police Command in Amawbia, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng revealed that the command located and rescued the kidnapped officials in the early hours of this morning.
Mr Echeng highlighted that the Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies is actively investigating the incident.
He explained that the focus of the investigation is to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous crime, ensuring they face the full wrath of the law, adding that as investigations continue, authorities remain committed to uncovering all the details surrounding the incident.
The CP said the rescued US Consulate officials are currently receiving medical attention and necessary support to aid their recovery from the traumatic experience.
