Christians have been charged to remain resolute in their resolve to follow Jesus Christ by being dedicated and energetic in prayers even as they pass through difficult times.
The Ogbaru Diocesan Bishop, Right Reverend Prosper Amah gave the charge in his presidential address during the second session of the sixth Synod of Ogbaru Diocese at Basilica of St James the Great Cathedral Atani Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Right Reverend Amah whose Synod theme was entitled “Possessing the Gates of your Enemies” challenged Christians not to allow the bad trend in the society to influence them as the word of God remains the anchor which they must operate with.
The Bishop commended the state Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo for the massive road construction in Okpoko and the cleaning of Sakamori Drainage at Obdoukwu Road, adding that Atani Road is receiving serious attention and prayed that similar gesture be extended to Atani-Ogwuikpele and Ogwuaniocha road.
On the state of the Nation, Bishop Amah urged the judiciary to do the needful, remain independent and unbiased as the nation needs a new civilian and democratic constitution that will reflect the real aspirations, shared values and representation of the ethnic nationalities of the country.
In his acceptance speech, the Metropolitan Archbishop, Province on the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim commended Bishop Amah for a well-chosen theme for the synod noting that this is the time when the church realized that it has external forces and enemies both in their families and society, hence there is need for Christians to be prepared to possess the gates of their enemies while calling on Ogbaru Diocese to remain firm and resolute in their faith.
Speaking to the ABS in separate interviews, the Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese Right Reverend Ndubisi Obi and his Niger West counterpart Right Reverend Johnson Ekwe, described the theme of the synod as apt going by the spiritual and human challenges Christians are passing through nowadays, urging Christians to rise up to the responsibilities of taking over what belong to them and that of their enemies for righteousness to spread across the world.
A member representing Ogbaru Two Constituency in the State House of Assembly Honorable Somto Udenze and ASUBEB Member representing private schools in Anambra state Dame Chinyere Mbakwe, stressed the need for Christians to remain firm in their faith and uphold the tenacity of the church in order to avert the issue of enemity in their families and the Society.
The 2023 Ogbaru Diocesan Synod attracted Bishops and Clergies from different dioceses in the Niger Province and beyond as well as delegates from various churches in the diocese among others.
