Oyi Local Government Area has joined in the National Children’s Day celebration at her headquarters at Nteje.

 

The celebration was attended by traditional rulers, different stakeholders and students from various schools in the local government area.

Children’s Day, observed annually on May 27 in Nigeria, is dedicated to appreciating children all over the world and allowing adults to reminisce on their own childhood experiences.

 

In his welcome remarks, Transition Chairman of Oyi Local Government Area, Honourable Emmanuel Nweke, , noted that protection of children’s rights and welfare is critical as children are the future and hope of every nation.

He counseled children to avoid bad company and work hard in order to achieve their aspirations and emphasized the need of teaching children the importance of effective waste management.

 

He also urged parents and guardians not to give up on instilling good morals and discipline in their children and being good role models.

In their separate remarks, two of the children, Miss Mmasichukwu Nwaigbo and Master Johnbosco Nwankwo thanked the Transition Chairman, Honourable Nweke, for allowing them to celebrate themselves, and advised others to be good citizens, study hard, and participate in extracurricular activities in order to be great people in the future.

 

Appreciating those who attended the celebration,, the Head of Oyi Local Government Administration Lady Edith Enuke , prayed God to lead them back to their various destinations.

The event featured cultural display and match past, with National Primary School, Nteje, Sacred Heart Primary School, Nteje, and Ezi Primary School, Awkuzu taking first, second, and third positions in the primary school category, respectively, and New Era Secondary School, Nteje taking first position in the secondary school category.
