Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, scored another first in his relentless development drive last week when he signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). While Governor Soludo signed on behalf of the Anambra State Government, Mohamed Yahya, Resident Representative of the UNDP in Nigeria, signed on behalf of the UNDP

 

UNDP, a subsidiary organ of the United Nations, states in the MOU that it “will collaborate to support the Anambra State’s flood response interventions for livelihood sustainability.” The body will support the preparations for comprehensive multi-year flood resilience programme for the State to leverage donors, development partners and private sector finances to strengthen resilience capacities at State and Local Government.

 

It will equally support Anambra State Government’s peace and security endeavours including the review of the recommendations of the Truth, Justice, and Peace Commission.

 

Moreover, UNDP will support the Anambra State Government to expand the partnership base for addressing systemic multi-dimensional development deficits in the State, increase positive visibility of the State, and develop a male-themed gender responsive entrepreneurial interventions for the State.

 

In the spirit of the MOU, Anambra State and UNDP will, on a regular basis, keep each other informed of, and consult on matters of common interest, which in their opinion are likely to lead to mutual collaboration.

 

According to the MOU document, consultation and exchange of information and documents under this MOU will be without prejudice to arrangements, which may be required to safeguard the confidential and restricted character of certain information and documents. Such arrangements will survive the termination of this MOU and of any agreements signed by the parties within the scope of the collaboration.

 

This way, the Anambra State Government and UNDP will, at intervals as deemed appropriate, convene meetings to review the progress of activities being carried out under the MOU and to plan future activities.

 

In line with the terms of the agreement, Anambra State and UNDP may invite each other to send observers to meetings or conferences convened by them or under their auspices in which, in the opinion of either party, the other may have an interest. Invitations will be subject to the procedures applicable to such meetings or conferences.

 

The MOU may be amended only by mutual written agreement of the UNDP and Anambra State.
