Anambra State government under the leadership of Professor Chukwuma Soludo has began the distribution of five hundred thousand Oil Palm seedlings and one hundred and seventy thousand high breed coconut seedlings across the three hundred and twenty-six wards in Anambra State.

 

During the distribution which commenced Wednesday, about ten local government areas took delivery of their one thousand five hundred Oil Palm seedlings and five hundred coconut seedlings per ward.

The distribution was supervised by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Foster Ihejiofor and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Dr Alex Obiogbolu.

 

Anaocha Local Government Area, which has nineteen wards received nine thousand, five hundred seedlings of coconut and took delivery of twenty-eight thousand, five hundred Oil Palm seedlings yesterday , Dunukofia Local Government Area took delivery of seven thousand coconut seedlings while they await their twenty-one thousand oil palm seedlings while Nnewi North Local Government Area took delivery of fifteen thousand Oil Palm seedlings and received coconut seedlings yesterday , Idemili North Local Government Area also took delivery of six thousand coconut seedlings and eighteen thousand oil palm seedlings.

The distribution continued simultaneously.

 

Speaking during the flag off at Anaocha Local Government Area and Idemili North Local Government Area respectively, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Ihejiofor said that the project is targeted at lifting one hundred and thirty-four thousand families in Anambra out of poverty in the next few years.

 

He maintained that Governor Soludo is committed to giving Ndi Anambra a secured economic future and ensure that average Ndi Anambra are living above the poverty level.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Dr Obiogbolu on his part, said that the major target are the poor families in the remotest part of the state and encouraged the committee to ensure effective distribution according the Governor’s directives.

 

The Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Engineer Chris Obiorah, his Dunukofia Local Government counterpart, Mr Augustine Onyemaobi and that of Anaocha, Mr Gerald Ozoh while taking the delivery of the seedlings, thanked Governor Soludo for the gesture and foresight.

They called on the beneficiaries to maximize the full potential of the opportunity and assured efficiency and effectiveness in the distribution as well as adequate monitoring for the objective to be achieved.

 

The APGA Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Chief Anthony Ugorji who also addressed the gathering at Anaocha, emphasized that Governor Soludo led administration has been full of transformative ideas and urged the people to always key in and support the progressive agenda for a better Anambra State.

Official handing over to the Ward Committee Chairmen at various local government areas climaxed the event.
