New students of Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government Area, have been urged to be ues ful to themselves, families and society by studying assiduously and acquiring necessary skills and knowledge throughout their academic journey in the institution.

 

Governor Chukwuma Soludo gave the advice during the sixth and seventh matriculation ceremonies of the polytechnic.

 

Governor Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, told the students that their future lies in their hands and that life is about choice, adding that it behooves them to make decision that will make them progressive in life.

 

Governor Soludo congratulated the students for choosing to study at the state polytechnic, which he described as a skilled based institution, warning them to shun truancy and study hard to become employers of labour.

 

He urged the staff of the polytechnic to continue to support his administration and eschew bitterness and rancour, and work with unity of purpose among themselves.

 

In her address, the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Njideka Chiekezie, commended the students for their wise decision to study at the polytechnic and urged them to abide by all rules and regulations and participate in all activities.

 

Dr. Chiekezie who enumerated the challenges of the Polytechnic to include delay in approval for Higher National Diploma Programme, reiterated the Polytechnic’s commitment to impact necessary skills to the new students, while assuring them of their safety in the institution.

 

She thanked Governor Soludo for commitment towards strengthening the education sector in the state, revealing that the 2021/2022 matriculation ceremony could not hold due to administration transition and logistics problems, hence it was merged with the 2022/2023 academic session.

 

Some of the new students, including Mr. Micheal Ogochukwu of Agricultural department and Miss Maureen Ngene of Science Technology Department, said they were elated on the occasion and promised to work hard for posterity.

 

After the presentation and admission of the new students, they took the oath of allegiance administered by the Polytechnic Registrar, Dr. Nkechi Udalla.
