Anambra State Government has flagged off the 2023 farming season.

 

Governor Chukwuma Soludo performed the function at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

The event, which has its theme as “Biological Farming: Nature’s Sustainability Solution” witnessed Agric fair, with display of farm produce such as Cassava stems, bags of Rice, Cocoanut trees, Palm trees, Corns, vegetables, live stocks, Plantain suckers and tractors among others.

In his remark, the Agric Commissioner, Dr Forster Ihejiofor, pointed out that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has succeeded in putting measures in place for sustainable agricultural practices in the state, with the three basic pillars of suitability, ability to protect the environment and economic opportunities.

The Transition Committee Chairman, Anambra East Council Area, Dr Anselm Onuorah, explained that with the increased overall interest of government in farming, there is hope that in no distant time, the vision of the state will materialize in food sufficiency.

While thanking the governor for his drive-in agriculture, the State Coordinator, FGN IFAD VCDP, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha, noted that the agency’s target is to expand its production, revealing that they have organized sensitization programme on flood mitigation measures and harvest even as he assured that the IFAD/VCDP will continue to create a friendly avenue for farmers to excel.

The President, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo, and a Bee keeper, Mr. Ugochukwu Okeke, expressed satisfaction with the engagement of the state government and asked the state citizenry to invest and patronize state made products for healthy living.
