Operation Clean and Heathy Anambra, OCHA Brigade has paraded six persons suspected for different criminal activities including armed robbery, theft, kidnapping, touting and impersonation.

 

The suspects who were individually arrested at different points in Onitsha were paraded at the headquarters of the Brigade in Awka.

Speaking to the press on the charges that will be leveled against the suspects, the Operation Officer of the Brigade, Mr. Chukwuemeka Oye said that Ndubuisi Okoye from Ebonyi and Chiedu Agbo from Enugu will be charged for robbery while Emeleze Enya from Rivers was caught snatching phones from unsuspecting residents at Building Materials International Market Ogidi and the remaining three suspects will be charged for touting and impersonation.

 

According to Mr. Oye, the Brigade will hand the suspects over to the police after which they will be charged to court for prosecution.

He warned criminal elements in the state to turn a new leaf or risk being apprehended as the Brigade under the watch of Comrade Celestine Anere will stop at nothing in ensuring that all Illegal activities in the state come to an end.

 

Mr. Oye called on the state citizenry to always approach the agency with complaints and suggestions on the activities of touts and impersonators while promising that in the shortest time the command will restore normalcy to the state.

 

The suspects accused of robbery, Messrs Okoye and Agbo confessed to the crime.

They narrated how they carry out the operation at night with the help of drivers who hand over passengers to them and will in turn share the proceeds after the robbery, blaming their acts on the devil and appealed for forgiveness from the public.

 

One of their victims, Mr. Ndubuisi Amadike from Enugwu-Agidi, narrated how he was delayed on his journey from Lagos to Anambra due to a faulty vehicle.

 

He said when they got to Asaba, they had to enter Mr. Okoye’s vehicle who assured them that they will get buses to Awka and Enugu from Onitsha at the same time only for him to hand them over to an armed robber and drove away.

 

Mr. Amadike called on the government to intervene as his goods worth over two million naira were lost.
