Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured to do what is necessary to ensure that the current annual basic salary of all categories of political, public and judicial office holders in Nigeria which is adjusted upward by one hundred and fourteen per cent by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, is implemented in the state.

 

The Governor gave the assurance when he received the compiled report of the reviewed remuneration packages for political, public and judicial office holders from delegates from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission at the Government House, Awka.

Governor Soludo represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim commended the officials of the Commission for bringing their expertise in the discharge of their duty of remuneration determination as authorized by the Nigeria’s constitution, promising to do the needful for the implementation of the recent adjustment in the remuneration packages in the state for office holders involved.

 

Governor Soludo used the opportunity to intimate the group on projects, programme and policies of his administration geared towards total transformation of the state and improvement of the living standards of the citizenry.

Disclosing that the current annual basic salary of all categories of political, public and judicial office holders in Nigeria is adjusted upward by one hundred and fourteen per cent after considerations that the consumer price index of some selected baskets of commodities have collectively grown by an average of three hundred and seventy-one per cent from 2018 to 2022, the Chairman Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Muhammadu Bello-Shehu represented by the Federal Commissioner in charge of Anambra state in the commission, Barrister Chima Okafor, explained that the provision of paragraph 32d of part 1 of the third schedule to the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended, empowers the commission to determine the remuneration appropriate for political office holders, including the president, vice president, governors, deputy governors, ministers, commissioners, special advisers, legislators and the holders of the offices mentioned in sections of eight-four  and one hundred and twenty-four of the constitution.

Saying that the commission was guided by equity and fairness, risk and responsibilities, national order of precedence, motivation, tenure of office, reasonableness and ability to pay, Mr Bello-Shehu noted that the commission recommends first January, 2023 as the effective date for the commencement of the implementation of the reviewed remuneration packages for political, public and judicial office holders in the country, and requested that the state’s House of Assembly hasten the amendment of relevant laws to allow for the commencement of the implementation as recommended.
