The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has lauded the World Health Organization, WHO, for its huge contributions to healthcare delivery in the state.

 

Dr. Obidike made the commendation during a four-day WHO South East zonal review meeting in Awka.

 

While noting that WHO’s continuous technical and financial supports have helped to shape the healthcare service delivery across Anambra State, Commissioner Obidike, explained that Governor Chukwuma Soludo played a significant role in convincing the WHO and other development partners to support the state health care sector.

 

According to him, Anambra State is witnessing improvement because of the governor’s political will to change the narrative in the healthcare system and listed the numerous supports the health ministry have received from WHO to include Integrated COVID-19/Cholera RTD training, campaign against non-Communicable disease, Commemoration of World Hypertension Day, Monkey Pox and Measles Outbreak as well as Lassa Fever control among others.

 

The Health Commissioner assured the WHO that his ministry would continue to work in harmony with it to achieve Universal Health Coverage for all.

 

The state coordinator of WHO, Dr. Abdulnasir Adamu, affirmed that Anambra State is one of the states that has good cordial relationship and understanding with his organization and explained that the review meeting provided them with the opportunity to evaluate their performance as well as to strategize on how to improve where they have not performed well.

 

He assured that WHO will continue to support Anambra State because of its target to provide good health to every citizen irrespective of status.
