Making use of indigenous contractors and following specifications and designs have been described as the means to quality road construction.

 

This was the highpoint of speeches made during the Investiture of Engineer Judemary Nwoti as the third Chairman, Anambra state chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers, NIHTE.

the institution established in 2013 by the Council of Nigerian Society of Engineers aims to make inputs on quality and standard road infrastructure in the country in addition to developing other means of transportation.

 

In his address during the investiture ceremony, the National Chairman of the Institution, Engineer Saidu Hassan represented by the National Secretary General of the Associaition, Engineer Bola Mudasiru noted that research and collaboration are important in improving road infrastructure in the country which he said the institution is currently focused on.

He commended the efforts of Anambra state Chapter of the Institution for it’s dedication and hard work in moving the chapter forward, charging the new Chairman to continue the good record.

 

In a lecture, the Head Department of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Akaolisa Ezeagu who lectured on the theme: “Design, Construction and Maintenance of Road Infrastructure; Doing it Right”, opined that the exclusion of Indigenous Contractors, hurried road designs without field visits and not following specifications just to cut corners are all factors hindering good and quality roads in the country.

In his inaugural address, Engineer Judemary Nwoti assured that the institution under his leadership will continue positive strides, especially in training and mentoring young Engineers, emphasizing the need to use qualified Engineers in public infrastructure amongst others.

 

Some Engineers who spoke during the event including the immediate past Chairman of the Institution, Engineer Augustine Ifeanyichukwu, the Pioneer Chairman of the Institution, Engineer Chidi Obiudu and the Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, Engineer Alex Ifeagwazi said Engineers are indispensable to development, noting that Engineers need to come together for a common purpose while also improving their skills constantly.

 

Inauguration of the new executives of the NIHTE and award presentations to deserving members and guests also featured at the event.
