Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa the late pioneer Bishop of Awka Diocese, and former Dean of the church of Nigeria Anglican communion has been described as an astute church leader.
Guests on a special edition of Nzuko Anambra, an ABS Radio programme which featured the legacies of the fallen church Leader said that the late Most Reverend Anikwenwa impacted positively on the lives of the people.
One of them Dr Emma Ezenwaji who is the President of the Laity Council in Awka Diocese and Chairman of the Planning Committee for the burial of the fallen church leader, said that Most Reverend Anikwenwa uplifted the Anglican Church in Anambra State and supported the growth of the Laity Council in the Diocese.
Dr Ezenwaji who disclosed that Most Reverend Anikwenwa taught the faithful that the mission of the church is an unfinished task, charged other church leaders to emulate him.
He stated how Most Reverend Anikwenwa supported the expansion of churches in Awka Diocese, building some small churches to mega ones.
Dr Ezenwaji said that the Most Reverend Anikwenwa played a great role in the establishment of Paul University in Awka which is the first faith-based University in Nigeria, describing him as a doyen of the Anglican Church.
Another guest on the programme Venerable David Obiagboso who served Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa as an administrative Assistant for years before the creation of Aguata Diocese in 2005 maintained that he learnt a lot working under the Most Reverend Anikwenwa.
Venerable Obiagboso said that the fallen former Bishop, Archbishop and Dean church of Nigeria believed so much that priests should be well equipped and empowered to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
On how the church remembered Most Reverend Anikwenwa when he was alive, Venerable Obiagboso disclosed that he was honoured by the church during his birthdays, and also instituted a lecture series in his honour at Paul University saying that many structures will be named after him for posterity.
Some callers on the programme including Nze Gbowam from Umunze and Michael Nwakeze from Awkuzu described the late Most Reverend Anikwenwa as a colossus.
