In his drive to achieve environmental sustainability, the Transition Committee Chairman of Oyi Local Government Area, Mr. Emmanuel Nweke has launched operation open all drainage channels in Oyi local government area.
The idea which is to allow free flow of flood and mitigate the effects of flooding was in collaboration with the President General of Awkuzu and Awkuzu Youth President, began the demolition of illegal structures on drainage channels at Nkwo market Awkuzu and environs.
In an interview shortly after the exercise, Mr. Nweke said that the action became necessary after all the removal notices served to owners of the illegal structures fell on deaf ears resulting to continuous blockage of drainages which roads overflown by flood at every rainfall causing traffic gridlock and road traffic crashes.
According to Mr. Nweke, Governor Soludo administration is very particular about the environment adding that Oyi Local Government must key into the policies and programs meant for the development of Anambra State.
He advised that people should desist from building on drainage channels, and commended Governor Soludo for all good efforts for a better Anambra and all his support, promising effective service delivery as the Mayor of Oyi Local Government Area.
