Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called on Christians to combine efforts with the state government to enthrone a better society.
Governor Soludo made the call during a funeral service for the late Archbishop Maxwell Anikwenwa, at St Faith Cathedral Church, Awka.
Governor Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, described the legacies of the late pioneer Bishop of Awka Diocese, former Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and one time Dean of the church of Nigeria, the late Most Reverend Anikwenwa as legion.
He reiterated that the evangelical legacies of the fallen church leader, who died at the age of eighty-three, should be emulated by other church leaders for peaceful coexistence.
In an absolution, the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, the Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, while describing the late Most Reverend Anikwenwa, as a focused and dedicated church leader, maintained that the church of Nigeria, will never forget his contributions in a hurry.
The Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, who described the late Most Reverend Anikwenwa as a colossus, implored other church leaders to always live by example.
In an interview, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, the Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, said that the late Most Reverend Anikwenwa, believed so much in human capital development adding that his contributions to the growth of the church, in the old Awka Diocese, before the creation of Aguata Diocese, was second to none.
In their various speeches, Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the last election, Mr. Peter Obi, member representing Awka South Constituency One, Honourable Henry Mbachu, Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, noted that the late prelate was a man of wisdom, who used his God’s given talents to impact lives and transformed the society.
For others, including the President General, Dennis Memorial Grammar School, DMGS, Onitsha, Old Boys’ Association worldwide, Dr Eric Anazodo, Professor Stella Okunna, and Chief Obidi Ebede, the type of the late Most Reverend Anikwenwa is rear and encouraged his family to toe his steps especially in the area of caring for the needy and downtrodden.
