Anambra State Commissioner for Women affairs, children and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo has described marriage as a sacred institution that needs to be respected.

 

Speaking on ABS Radio programme in Awka on checking Domestic Violence in the society, Mrs Obinabo who decried the high rate of domestic violence and divorce cases in the society charged Married couples to always respect, love and honour each other.

 

She said that the Ministry of Women affairs, Children and social welfare has put necessary machinery in place to ensure the reduction of domestic Violence which she noted is having a negative impact on children who are the leaders of tomorrow.

 

Mrs Obinabo disclosed that Married couples should always set the moral tone for their children, warning them against making uncomplimentary remarks before their children.

 

She commended the wife of the Governor of Anambra State Mrs Nonye Soludo for all her support to the Ministry of Women affairs, Children and Social Welfare describing her as an Amazon.

 

Mrs Obinabo during the programme said that more sensitization will be carried out by the Ministry towards enlightening the people on the inherent dangers of domestic Violence on the society.

 

Another guest on the programme who is a Marriage Counselor and a retired school principal Dame Eunice Mesigo, blamed the high rate of domestic violence and series of divorce in the society on the lack of knowledge of God.

 

Dame Eunice Mesigo while charging married couples to always anchor their union on the foundation of Christ stressed the need for married couples to always pray together with their children in order to enthrone a God fearing and decent society.

 

She urged wives to always be submissive to their husbands, pointing out that husbands should love their wives, and provide for the needs of the family.

 

Dame Eunice Mesigo commended the Anambra State Commissioner for Women affairs, Children and Social Welfare for all her efforts towards improving the wellbeing of women and children in the state, calling for its sustainability.
