A business executive, Chief Michael Okafor-Nwofia has appealed to the federal government to find a lasting solution to the perennial flooding in some parts of the country.
Chief Okafor-Nwofia made the appeal while speaking to the ABS at Iyiora Anam, in Anambra West Local Government Area.
He regretted that the annual flooding has in recent years damaged food crops and property of the people worth billions of naira.
He noted that Anambra West Local Government Area is the food basket of Anambra State, regretting that the flood which started causing havoc since 2012 has reduced the food supply from the area.
Chief Okafor-Nwofia explained that the solution to the perennial flood crisis is building of more dams and dredging of the River Niger and Omambala River, as well as other rivers that need to be dredged across the country.
The business executive maintained that it is cheaper to build dams and dredge rivers than spend billions of naira annually as palliatives and interventions for people displaced by flood.
He called on the State Emergency Management Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency to synergize on how best to secure people who are going to be affected by flooding this year in order to reduce their sufferings.
Chief Okafor-Nwofia also urged the federal Ministry of Health and the Anambra State Ministry of Health to ensure that adequate drugs are provided for the people during the expected disaster .
