Visiting an eye care specialist at least once every year is necessary is for early detection of eye defects.

 

The Head, Anambra state Eye Centre, Nise, Dr. Ikenna Mbakigwe disclosed this while performing cataract operations on some people fully sponsored by the Anambra state government at the hospital.

 

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Mbakigwe said that eye is a very essential and critical organ of the body which needs to be taking care of at all times.

 

He described cataract as an aged related illness that happens in the eye where a lense in the eye gets cloudy as an individual gets older and said that it is recommended for an adult person to check his or her eyes at least once a year to avoid eye defects.

 

According to Dr. Mbakigwe, checking of the eyes once a year is important to know the condition of one’s eyes, as cataract can be cured while glaucoma is an irreversible blindness.

 

Earlier, the Anambra state Acting Head of Hospital Administration, Dr. Innocent Umeakunne who commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for establishing the eye centre said that the facility has sufficient equipment to treat eye problems of Ndi Anambra efficiently.

 

Dr. Umeakunne who equally praised the Anambra state Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, for his good works and steadfastness in ensuring that the state’s health care services are improving urged Ndi Anambra to utilize the facility for their own good.

 

Three people were operated on during the exercise which was done to launch the facility.
