It was a moment of grief and sober reflection for staff and management of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, as the body of one of its staff, Mr. Ikechukwu Anachina was brought to the station for a brief stop over and commendation service.
Mr. Anachina who until his death was a staff of the Engineering Department of the organization died after protracted illness at the age of forty-three, living behind a young family.
During the commendation service held in his honor at the ABS Corporate Headquarters, Aroma Awka, the Presiding Priest, Reverend Canon Basil Orji noted that the late Ikechukwu, popularly called ‘IK’ amongst staff was a gentleman who was dedicated to his duty not minding personal difficulties.
Reverend Canon Orji prayed for the repose of his soul and urged the country’s leadership to work towards improving the wellbeing of the citizenry, especially the public servants.
In his speech, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu represented by the Director, News and Current Affairs, ABS, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, lamented the death of Mr. Ikechukwu and observed that his dedication, loyalty and friendliness to all made him stand out.
The Director of Administration ABS, Lady Tina Ekenta said that the late Ikechukwu was like a son who despite his health situation was still committed towards carrying out his duties, expressing pain over his passage.
The Director of Engineering Department, Engineer Paul Okoye and a retired Head of Engineering Department, Engineer Bonny Ezeani said that late Mr. Ikechukwu worked under them and explained that he was popularly called ‘Anachina’ by his close friends and always carried out responsibilities assigned to him without grudges, saying his death was most painful.
His body was later taken to his hometown, Ugbenu, in Awka North Council Area, accompanied by ABS staff members and his kinsmen.
