Anambra State Government has begun verification exercise for staff of the defunct Anambra State Water Corporation and Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency, ANSEPA.
The ten-day exercise holding at Anambra State Water Asset Holdings Corporation Headquarters, Amudo Awka, is geared to ascertain genuineness of staff of the Water Corporation, revitalize water sector in the state for sustainable management scheme and resolve the age-long dispute between staff of the defunct Anambra water corporation and the state government.
Speaking during the exercise, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Water Resources Management Office and Urban Water Asset Holding Corporation, Chief Ikeobi Ejiofor, explained that the activity was in line with the mandate of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to revitalize the water scheme for easy and smooth running of pipe borne water in the communities of the state, to alleviate sufferings of the masses.
Chief Ejiofor, said the mandate given to them by the Governor, led to the inauguration of Technical Committee on verification by the Head of Service to settle the dispute due to the mismanagement in the Water Corporations that culminated into the collapse of the system.
He said that the over twelve years dispute has directly and indirectly affected the water resources management in the state, noting that the Water Corporation was instituted to provide adequate and constant running water to all communities in the state.
Baring their minds, staff of the defunct Anambra Water Corporation, Mr. Emeka Nwokoye and Mrs Abigail Emedo, lauded the Governor for coming to their aid by reviving the water scheme and settling the age long impasse.
The Permanent Secretaries office of the Head of the Service and Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Mrs Caro Njaka and Mrs Ifeyinwa Uzoka respectively were part of the verification committee.
