Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct either the Commissioner for Works or the Managing Director of Anambra Road Maintenance Agency to urgently commence palliative work on the failed portion of Oba-Ichi-Okigwe-road with a spur at Ichi town between Ichi Primary School Bus stop and Ichi Girls’ Secondary School bus stop to forestall further loss of lives and property.

 

The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the majority leader, Honourable Ikenna Ofodeme during plenary in Awka.

 

According to the Majority Leader, about four persons had lost their lives in the hands of armed robbers, while six persons were kidnapped on the road from January till date.

 

He maintained that if urgent attention is given to the failed portion of the road, more lives and property will be safeguarded and will consequently enhance economic activities in the environment.

 

In his contribution, the member representing Aguata Constituency One, Honourable Anayo Okpalaeke urged Anambra Road Maintenance Agency to swing into action by fixing the failed portion of the road so that the people can easily move about their daily businesses.

 

The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze commended efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in reconstruction of many dilapidated toads in the State and urged him to come to the aid of the road users.

 

Also at plenary, the House passed another resolution urging Governor Soludo to direct Anambra Road Maintenance Agency to put speed breakers at visual sites at Agu-Awka, Odumodu junction and at intersection roads within Awka-Onitsha express road to reduce casualties in those areas.

 

The member representing Njikoka Constituency Two, Dr. Jude Akpua who sponsored the motion explained that the measure will check over speeding by motorists who ply those areas.
