Concerned Citizens of Uruokpala village , Egbema Ozubulu in Ekwusigo local Government Area of Anambra State have appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to include College Road Ozubulu in the state road construction programme to prevent loss of lives and property
The dilapidated road which is less than two kilometers begins from Umualisi village,Egbema Ozubulu, transverses Community Secondary School Ozubulu, to link Nnewi – Ozubulu – Okija Road .
Speaking shortly after conducting the ABS round the road including areas where erosion is wrecking havoc,Mr. Norbert Ubanatu who stood in for Chief Basil Obodoechi a stakeholder in the community who has been doing palliative work on the road for years, and Other concerned citizens of Uruokpala, Egbema Ozubulu , recounted how the gully erosion started over twenty years and has claimed the life of Mrs Georginia Anazodo , some students from Community Secondary School Ozubulu who fell into the gully and were injured and how another victim, Mr Odinaka Nnoli last week fell into the deep gully with his motor cycle and sustained various degree of injuries, said the gully erosion has cut off the Community Secondary School and students find it difficult to access the school
Mr. Ubanatu lamented that most parents have withdrawn their children from the school for other neighbouring schools pointing out that the number of students which was initially more than five hundred has drastically reduced to about one hundred and fifty and called for urgent intervention of the State Government
He further explained that the College Road Ozubulu was the ever first native road in Ozubulu that leads to Ulasi River.
The Chairman Umualisi Village , Chief Chigozie Akosa, , Former President General Egbema Ozubulu,Mr Eugene Nwannekezie and the youth leader ,Mr Ugochukwu Ugwunwa ,late Georgina Anazodo family members,a victim,Mr Odinaka Nnoli and his Elder Brother Mr Sunday Nnoli recounted their suffering because of the pitiable condition of the road, pleading with Governor Soludo to wipe their tears by awarding the road for construction.
The Principal of Community Secondary School Ozubulu, Mrs Uzoma Obi and some of her students, including Chimsiindi Chidera, Chioma Ani and Chimereze Ibeh decried the poor condition of the road which they lamented has retarded the growth of the school and provided criminals the opportunity to vandalize the school property calling for government intervention.
