Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has urged officers of the command to redouble their efforts until the menace of kidnapping is eradicated in the state.
CP Adeoye, also commended all personnel involved in the smashing of a notorious kidnap gang, operating at Anam axis, Anambra West Local Government Area.
A release signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, has it that on eighteenth July 2023, police detectives were alerted to one Chukwuebuka Esulo, from Ebonyi State, who was seeking a buyer at Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, for a black Mercedes Benz GLK SUV, with registration no, BLF 746 EA, whose owner had earlier been reported kidnapped at Aguleri Community, on twenty-sixth June, 2023, and the sum of four point five million naira extorted as ransom from the family before he was released.
According to the release, the detectives swooped on the suspect and arrested him for questioning, during which he confessed to being a member of the kidnap gang and disclosed that he was sent from their camp to sell the car.
On the orders of the commissioner, the case was transferred to Anti Kidnapping Unit, Awkuzu, which then went after other members of the gang leading to the arrest of one other member, Ejeka Ufuo, male’ twenty-three years, who was led to believe that the vehicle had been sold and he came out with the intent of collecting the proceeds.
According to DSP Ikenga, efforts are ongoing to round up other members of the gang and recover their weapons.
