The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma has reassured workers that the State Government has put in place security measures to ensure their safety especially on Mondays.
Addressing Ministry of Works staff in his office yesterday, Engineer Okoma stated that Monday Sit-at-home by workers has brought about immense loss to the state and created low productivity and laxity in public service.
He said there is a team from the Governor’s Office that will be going round government offices on Mondays to ensure compliance, stressing that Ministry of Works henceforth start weekly activities with Monday Prayers that is compulsory for all the Staff of the Ministry to attend.
Engineer okoma stated that the government is aware of the rising cost of living occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and is making everything possible to prioritize the welfare of workers and part of the effort is the prompt payment of salaries as at when due, to mitigate their sufferings
On her part, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mrs. Stephanie Keri-Uzor, thanked the State Government and the Commissioner for being responsive to the plight of workers and putting their interest above all priorities.
She commended the Engineers in the Ministry for their professionalism and prompt supervision of roads even in insecurity prone areas.
In his vote of thanks, the Acting Director Maintenance Department, Engineer Noel Okoye, showered encomiums on the government, particularly the Commissioner for the relative peace and good working relationship that exist in the Ministry since his assumption of office.
