Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Managing Director, Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency to commence palliative work on failed portion at Oko bumps along Ekwulobia-Oko-Ufuma-Ajali-Umunze road to minimize crashes in the area.
The resolution was sequel to motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the member representing Orumba North Constituency, Honourable Paul Obu during plenary in Awka.
Honourable Obu who described good road network as key to sustainable development, disclosed that the deplorable condition of the area causes accident and affects economic activities of the area.
The legislator informed the House that if palliative work is carried out on the failed portion of the road, it will make a free flow of traffic, minimize accident, save lives, decrease transportation cost and generally enhance economic growth in the area.
He, however commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for recording unprecedented milestone in the kilometer of roads awarded for construction across the twenty-one Local government areas of the state within the past fifteen months of his administration.
On his part, the member representing Onitsha North Constituency Two, Honourable Pat Okafor observed that if the failed portion is not urgently repaired, it could lead to erosion due to the topography of the area.
The member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Jude Akpua pointed out that when palliative work is done on roads, it minimizes flash points and prevent armed robbers from using it as a point to dispossess innocent citizens of their belongings.
The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze also said that commerce and industry which is the mainstay of every economy are enhanced by good network of roads and read out the resolution of the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
