Anambra State government has distanced self from those parading themselves as taskforce on indecent dressing.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Honourable Ify Obinabo who made this known while speaking with journalists in her office in Awka described the act as illegal act targeted at tarnishing the image of the state government.

This was a reaction to a Facebook user narration of how a lady was held hostage at Upper-Iweka area of Onitsha over offence of not putting on bra.

According to the Facebook user, the victim was accosted by some group of young men claiming to be Anambra State Task Force team for indecent dressing.

She alleged that the victim paid the sum of five thousand naira to the purported revenue collectors before regaining her freedom.

The Women Affairs Commissioner has therefore warned those involved to desist forthwith or risk arrest and prosecution, just as she enjoined women to raise alarm anytime they encounter such anomaly so that the perpetrators of such would be treated as rapist, criminals and armed robbers as government has no hand in it but stressed the need for proper dressing code.
