The Anambra State Association of Town Union, ASATU, has passed a vote of confidence on the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-collins Nwabunwanne.

The vote of confidence followed call for the sack of the Commissioner by an APGA Chieftain and community leader in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia local government area, Chief Vincent Udobi, who alleged that reinstating and recognizing Mr. Uchenna Nwoye as the President General of the community caused about seventy percent of the problem in therein, which he said Governor Chukwuma Soludo may be not well-informed about.

Chief Udobi, who admitted that Ifitedunu community is in deep trouble, urged Governor Soludo, where he said is doing well in the state to take special interest in the town for return of lasting peace, which he said members of the community truly want, and to device a means of getting feedback on activities of his employees.

But in a press briefing in Awka, ASATU National President, Barrister Titus Akpudo, who commended achievements of the Commissioner, said most communities in the state are now calm and experiencing peace under him.

On the Ifitedunu incident, where the President General was attacked and badly injured in the public, the ASATU National President called on relevant authorities who have been petitioned over the incident to expedite actions on investigation and punish those found culpable to serve as deterrent to others.

On his part, Commissioner Nwabunwanne explained that the constitution of Ifitedunu community requires that the decision to sack an elected President General must be taken in a general meeting, and supported by two-third of those present.

He said Chief Udobi was wrong to stand against Nwoye because he is covered by the community’s constitution, even as he faulted attack on the President General by thugs allegedly brought by Chief Udobi, calling on security agencies to take action and make necessary arrests.

Reacting also, the embattled President General, Mr. Nwoye, denied the allegations levelled against him, insisting that he remained the PG, and that based on Ifitedunu constitution, the village chairmen and BOT members have no power to impeach or remove him from office.
