Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has called for the support of the private sector in the development of the sports sector to enable it thrive.

 

Deputy Governor Ibezim made the call when executive members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN South East zone, led by the Vice President, Mr. Frankie Omokhua paid him a visit in his office at the Government House, Awka.

Dr Ibezim who stated that the sports sector cannot survive without the help of the private sector, said that private individuals and group should come forward to support the sector for its sustainability and betterment of the society.

 

The Deputy Governor told the group that the government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to revamping the sports sector of the state, as the administration has already established a committee that will help device means of quick improvement of the sector, owing to its believe that the sector does not only has the ability to boost the economy of the state, but also curbs crime and criminality in the society.

He acknowledged the contributions of the Sports Writers Association in the projection and development of the sports sector, and assured the Anambra and Southeast arms of the association of the Soludo government’s support.

 

Earlier in an address, the South East Vice President of SWAN, Mr. Omokhua while saying that the association has played a pivotal role in helping to build the needed expertise among sports writers in Nigeria, explained that one of the major responsibilities of the group is to ensure that development of sports, especially at the grassroots level is given support and media attention in order to discover and harness young and budding talents that will represent the country locally and internationally.

The SWAN South East VP, observed that the present administration of Professor Chukwuma Soludo has shown capacity, courage and determination in reviving the sports sector of the state, unlike in the past when Anambra that had produced some of the country’s brightest sports stars became irrelevant in the world of sports, even as he disclosed that South East SWAN under his leadership, plans to collaborate with Anambra state government and other states in the zone to give support to innovations that would help to attain more successes in sports sector.

In a vote of thanks, the Financial Secretary of the South East SWAN, Mrs. Ijeoma Peter-Nwante thanked Deputy Governor Dr Ibezim for the warm reception he accorded them during the visit, and appealed that Anambra state government will always support the state’s arm of the association when necessary.
