The twelfth edition of the annual youth forum of Nnokwa Progress Union (NPU) Lagos Branch is billed for tomorrow Saturday 26th August, 2023 at Nnokwa Civic Centre, Ejigbo, Lagos State. This programme which has proven to be pivotal to the growth and development of the youth of the community is geared towards charting the right course for these leaders of tomorrow, providing them the necessary tools needed to face the future whilst helping to point them in the right direction.

The 2023 Youth Forum titled ‘’Developing Your Leadership Potential – Key to Succeeding in Politics and Entrepreneurship’’ is properly adapted to the challenges of today’s Nigeria which has been plagued by many years of being governed by leaders who were ill prepared, finding themselves in places of authority. In view of this, it has become pertinent to catch them young by preparing them for the onerous task of contributing to pull the nation out of the woods.

The youths of Nnokwa will be made to answer many questions at this year’s Youth Forum and the most critical of them will be: If your situation–be it in your family, your team, your church, your friends, your local government, your state, your country, or enterprise – required a leader, would you step up and be one? There is need to be intentional in molding leaders of tomorrow and in the words of Warren Bennis: ‘’The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born -that there is a genetic factor to leadership. This myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. However, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born’’. With this conviction, the town union has assembled leadership experts that include Hon. Barrister Ebele Obi (former member of Anambra State House of Assembly) and Pharm. Valentine Okelu of Neimeth International Pharmaceutical to provide insightful mentorship opportunity to these future leaders.

Nnokwa Progress Union, Lagos Branch is committed to making the world a better place and her Youth Forum is geared towards deepening that goal through mentoring, skill acquisition, youth empowerment, counselling, and career guidance. The forum has helped in preparing the youths of the town through activities and experiences that help them develop social, ethical, emotional, and cognitive competencies which include ability to analyze their own strengths and weaknesses, set personal and vocational goals, and have the self-esteem, confidence, motivation, and abilities to carry them out. Many of our youths have also benefitted directly on many fronts with twenty-five persons passing through scholarships for higher education, four persons going through skill acquisition training and start-up support while ensuring the safety of our youths even while serving the nation.

NPU Lagos Branch under the chairmanship of Nze Clement Ezegbunam wishes to appreciate partners who made this twelfth edition of her Youth Forum a reality. We specially thank Akachukwu Akonam Foundation, Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Limited, Peter Abasilim Foundation, FCMB, Chiko Mario Enterprises, Blueworld Cosmetics, Elbe Pharmacy, Royal Jatoz Hotel and Okoso Nigeria Limited for their unflinching support.
