Since the creation of Anambra State, the state has the singular good fortune and luck of having governors who have great interest for education.

 

Previous administrations especially the APGA government under former Governor Peter Obi repositioned the education sector with massive investment and handing over missionary schools to the church to guarantee efficient management of the schools.

 

Education Correspondent, Queen Anigbogu reports that other APGA governors including the immediate past Governor, Chief Willie Obiano and the current Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo, continued the initiatives that would improve the quality of education obtainable in schools in the state.

 

These steps having been yielding unquantifiable dividends with Anambra students winning many awards and laurels at national and international levels, with the most recent being the Nigerian/Malaysia International Debate where Anambra students who represented Nigeria came tops.

 

Speaking on this, the Chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu described education as the chief cornerstone of national development in all countries of the world and leaders who are desirous of transforming their areas of influence pay special attention to education.

 

Professor Ikediugwu explained that this is what governors of Anambra past and present have done which has brought a revolution in the education sector and placed Anambra State on global map of educational achievements.

 

In her remarks, the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi pointed out that most Ndi Anambra have natural love for education and successive governments over the years, have consciously implemented progressive policies which had helped in developing the sector.

 

She further noted that these efforts have transformed Anambra into being a super intellectual hub.

 

Contributing, a lecturer in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Dr. Agary Nwokoye, explained that in examinations like WASSCE , JAMB, national and international debates which Anambra students blazed the trail are some of the indices one can use to rate the state in terms of education.

 

He pointed out that the present administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is also looking at infrastructural development in education sector and he expressed the believe that the state will have a better deal with his government.

 

The Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Prof Anthony Agu who said there is still room for improvement in Anambra education sector, however agreed that the State has been doing wonderfully well in education.
