The people of Amako village Nanka in Orumba North have declared that they are still part and parcel of Nanka patriotic Union.
The people made this known during a press briefing in the village following the recent leadership tussle which led to the formation of a parallel leadership by a group in the village.
The Secretary General of Amako Nanka village, Chief Patrick Ofobuzo and a stakeholder in the village, Chief Isaac Ezeme who described the people of the area as peaceful and law-abiding wondered why a group of people from the village will be working against the Nanka Patriotic Union under the leadership of Reverend Canon Ifeanyi Ezike and the traditional ruler of the community Igwe Godwin Ezeilo.
According to them, the leadership of Amako village and the people of the area are committed to those programmes and policies aimed at moving Nanka Community and Anambra State forward.
Contributing, a member of Igwe in council of Nanka, Chief Emmanuel Obuekunie who reaffirmed the support of Amakor Nanka village to the traditional ruler of Nanka Igwe Ezeilo and the traditional prime Minister of the community Chief Kofi Obijiofor who they say are working for the progress of the community.
Chief Obuekunie decried series of intimidation being experienced by the people of Amakor Nanka in the hands of those who are working against the traditional institution of Nanka over the position of traditional Prime Minister which he said that the election was done through the merger of Amakor and Umudara villages according to the constitution of Nanka Patriotic Union, though the candidate of Amakor village, Chief Tony Ezekafor later stepped down for the candidate of Umudara village, Chief Kofi Obijiofor who was later elected as the Traditional Prime Minister of Nanka Community with the support of Nanka traditional institution.
When contacted on phone, the Chairman Amako-Njikoka Development Union, Chief Chuks Okeke who described people of Amako village as people once known for peace and unity, maintained that they are committed to sustaining the development brought to the village by Chief Obuekunie when he was the chairman of the village which according to him should be sustained by every leadership in Amakor for prosperity.
He then called on the state government to intervene in the recent crisis to restore peace and harmony in the area, explaining that Nanka Patriotic Union had tried it’s best to address the issue but all to no avail.
