Anambra State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Mrs Chiamaka Nnake says the welfare of Ndi Anambra remains the primary focus of the present administration.

 

Speaking on ABS Radio and Television programme Tonimas half hour in Awka Mrs Nnake disclosed that in the 2024 budget Anambra State government has rolled out more comprehensive agenda to address the medium to long term issues that will help soften the path for all residents and ensure that everyone shares in the broad agenda of building a livable and prosperous homeland.

 

According to the Commissioner in the meantime and over the remaining four months of the year September to December 2023 as well as within the context of the 2023 budget framework, the government is rolling out a few immediate and medium-term measures.

 

Mrs Nnake who maintained that the removal of petrol subsidy affects everybody, especially the unemployed and underemployed youths as well as vulnerable segments of the populace the interim response of the Anambra State government reflects the need to target the total population.

 

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning disclosed that in response to rising inflation, Anambra State government has increased the salary of both civil and public servants by ten percent with effect from January 2023 which the government had been paying the adjustment since the period.

 

She disclosed that in addition to salary increment the government will be paying every pensioner, civil and public servants in its employ and twenty-one Local Government Areas which approximately is fifty-nine thousand persons for the period of September to December 2023 a Monthly flat nontaxable cash ward of twelve thousand naira to augment their monthly take home.

 

Mrs Nnake re-assured that the government of Anambra State will continue to clear the backlog of gratuity and pension in addition to distributing bags of rice to over three hundred thousand households in no distant time across the three hundred and twenty-six electoral wards in Anambra State.

 

Some callers to the programme including Maduburochukwuibeya from Inyi Enugu State and Chief Ezeafulukwe from Ihiala commended the Anambra State government for the initiative which they said is a step in a positive direction.
