Mgbakwu women led by Ogbanabo Umunwanyi Mgbakwu, an arm of the group saddled with the responsibility of maintaining peace and unity among the women have protested against the decision of their male counterpart to remove the sitting Woman President General, Mrs Ngozi Nwankwo by end of the year.
The women staged a protest at the office of the Commissioner for Women Affairs , Anambra State to stamp their feet on their decision.
Chanting a solidarity song, the women displayed placards with inscriptions such as, “All we need is give us our woman PG, “We want Mrs Ngozi to continue as our PG, ‘Have they asked their PG to call for a Meeting?” “We don’t involve in the election of men” , Soludo we voted for you please intervene ” among many other write ups.
On why they decided to protest, the leader of the Ogbanabo Umunwanyi Mgbakwu, Mrs Theresa Nwodo said that they are tired of having their male counterpart dictate to them how their union should handle issues and went on to reveal that Mgbakwu women group is independent of the Mgbakwu Men group and as such, their leadership decisions are independent of each other.
She also pleaded with the state government to Intervene in the situation and allow the sitting Woman PG to finish her tenure, stating that since she assumed office the women have experienced a tremendous change stating that they are solidly behind her.
Responding, the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Mrs Ify Obinabo who read through their displayed placards assured them of looking into the issue and bringing a lasting solution and possible peace to the women and community at large.
She promised to talk with all necessary parties to ensure that peace returned.
